POSITION SUMMARY              
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end development and support of Prototek’s Instant Quote (IQ) platform, which manages primarily quoting, ordering, and shipping workflows. This role owns the core Laravel + Inertia.js/React system, covering backend services, frontend, and database performance. The engineer will collaborate with Product and business stakeholders (estimators, marketing, shipping, etc.) to clarify requirements and deliver business-driven solutions.

Candidates with additional experience in Python and adjacent systems (CAD integrations, AI/ML model serving) are preferred. This position is a hands-on individual contributor role, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS        
  • Design, develop, and maintain features in the Laravel + Inertia.js/React platform, including quoting, orders, and shipping workflows.
  • Design and optimize SQL queries and workflows for high-volume transactions.
  • Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to refine ambiguous requirements into clear, practical solutions aligned with business value.
  • Contribute to both backend architecture and user experience improvements to balance system complexity with usability.
  • Partner with Data Science to integrate and support ML models in production environments.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform).
  • Explore opportunities for performance and process optimization (e.g., runtime and process management improvements).
  • Participate in Agile/Kanban process, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Conduct code reviews and uphold standards for engineering quality and testing.
  • Provide input on technical direction and raise ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
  • Strong expertise in Laravel/PHP, including integrated frontend via Inertia.js.
  • Solid skills in React/TypeScript/TailwindCSS for frontend development.
  • Deep SQL knowledge with proven query optimization experience.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience building and supporting production APIs at scale.
  • Preferred: Strong Python experience, FastAPI familiarity.
  • Preferred: Exposure to CAD/geometry processing, ML model serving, or data pipelines.
  • Preferred: Experience with RBAC, Stripe API, Salesforce API.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with ERP-related business processes (quotes, RFQs, sales orders, work orders, CRM).
  • Preferred: Experience working in ITAR-regulated environments.

EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Proven track record delivering scalable, production-grade Laravel applications.
  • Additional experience with Python and data/ML integrations strongly preferred.

WORK HOURS/TRAVEL
  • Monday through Friday. 40 hours/week.
  • Fully Remote Position
  • Flexible scheduling in agreement with the supervisor.
